The ending of Einstein further showed the characteristics that Albert Einstein had until his dying days. One of the qualities that was really noticeable at the end of this reading was his determination. Even as Einstein’s health declined, he continued to work with his equations; trying to find out the last of his theories. His determination continues to be seen even after his death, when the equations that he was working on were found next to his body. I think that it is amazing how intelligent and driven Einstein was. Determination, I believe, is an important character trait to have, especially for a scientist. It allows scientists to do what they do, and go out and discover the truths of the world. Without it, Einstein may never have completed the work he did, or even started the work that others would soon finish.
Another character trait that came up in the last part of the reading was Albert Einstein’s curiosity. In the book, Einstein states that his accomplishments came from curiosity. Curiosity is one of the most important traits that a scientist can have. It is what drives them to find out the truths of the world, and it is what causes them to make such great discoveries. When asked what one of the most important characteristics of a scientists was, scientists said curiosity. I believe this to be true. Curiosity not only helped Einstein to discover all of these things out about physics, but it helped Barbara McClintock discover the genetics of corn.
Lastly, Albert Einstein’s awe of the beauty of nature was discussed. This awe is often described as childlike, and it is one of the many things that helps to drive a scientists to do their work. This reminded me a lot of Darwin, and the childlike wonder and awe that he had throughout his life. This awe of the beauty of nature caused Darwin to want to go out and discover the things that he was able to; this same awe is seen in Einstein which causes him to accomplish the things that he does. It is important to have this childlike wonder and awe in order to want to discover things that have never been discovered before. Without it, who knows if Einstein, or Darwin, would have discovered the things that they did.
